BRANDON TEENA

Spin Cycle is pleased to announce the upcoming revival of the play BRANDON TEENA, written by Leigh Silverman.  A national tour will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the death of Brandon Teena.  The play will open in New York in June for a brief run and then will tour the U.S.  A portion of the ticket sales will benefit The Human Rights Campaign.

Originally produced in 1998 at th eNew York International Fringe Festival, BRANDON TEENA tells the story of Teena, a female-to-male transgender person who was raped and murdered in 1993 in Humboldt, Nebraska.  His story is also the basis of the documentary The Brandon Teena Story and the Academy Award-winning film Boys Don’t Cry (starring Hilary Swank, Chloe Sevigny and Peter Sarsgaard).

Writer/director Leigh Silverman directed Lisa Kron’s Well and Chinglish on Broadway.  Her many off-Broadway credits include The Call, The Madrid, Golden Child, and The Beebo Brinker Chronicles.
