Spin Cycle is pleased to announce the upcoming revival of the play BRANDON TEENA, written by Leigh Silverman. A national tour will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the death of Brandon Teena. The play will open in New York in June for a brief run and then will tour the U.S. A portion of the ticket sales will benefit The Human Rights Campaign.
Originally produced in 1998 at th eNew York International Fringe Festival, BRANDON TEENA tells the story of Teena, a female-to-male transgender person who was raped and murdered in 1993 in Humboldt, Nebraska. His story is also the basis of the documentary The Brandon Teena Story and the Academy Award-winning film Boys Don’t Cry (starring Hilary Swank, Chloe Sevigny and Peter Sarsgaard).
Writer/director Leigh Silverman directed Lisa Kron’s Well and Chinglish on Broadway. Her many off-Broadway credits include The Call, The Madrid, Golden Child, and The Beebo Brinker Chronicles.
