New York City Gay Men’s Chorus Celebrates
PRIDE FOR ALL AGES
** featuring the debut of the Youth Pride Chorus **
and guest star Greg Louganis
One Night Only -- Wednesday, June 18 at 8:00pm.
On June 18th, New York City Gay Men’s Chorus will cap off its 23rd season with its annual Gay Pride concert. This year the concert is titled Pride For All Ages and will be presented Wednesday, June 18th at Carnegie Hall. It is sponsored by Fleet Bank.
Under the baton of Jeffrey Maynard, the program for Pride For All Ages will feature a choral version of Walt Whitman’s "Song of Democracy" and the New York premiere of "Oliver Button is a Star!," a musical tale of embracing differences and striving to achieve one’s dreams, narrated by actor and Olympic Gold Medalist Greg Louganis. Accompanying the Chorus for part of the program will be The Lesbian & Gay Big Apple Corps, New York City’s premiere gay and lesbian marching and symphonic band. The concert will also mark the eagerly anticipated debut of the Youth Pride Chorus, the first group of its kind in the U.S. The concert takes its title from an original song by David Friedman, Pride For All Ages, that the Youth Pride Chorus will sing with the NYCGMC.
Youth Pride Chorus is a joint project of NYCGMC and the Youth Enrichment Services (YES) program of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in Manhattan (The Center). Youth Pride Chorus is comprised of 42 LGBT youth and their allies ages 14 to 21.
