Self-Proclaimed Psychotherapist Returns To Give Counsel In Booze-Addled Milieu

Psychotherapy Live!
Performances run September 5 - 27 at Fez

"Civilization and its discontents should be lining up at Fez as performance artist and self-accredited psychotherapist Lisa Levy announces the return of her not-at all repressive show." -- Village Voice

"Mixing a dash of Freud with a dollop of 'Whose Line Is It Anyway?'" -- Time Out

"A shrink with stage presence" -- The New York Times

Beginning Friday, September 5th, self-proclaimed psychotherapist Lisa Levy returns to Fez with her wildly popular performance experience Psychotherapy Live!. In this evening of psychotherapy as performance art, Levy combines common sense, semi-searing perception and her trademark dry wit to perform psychotherapy on willing audience volunteers.

Armed with a couch, a pair of microphones, and a well-worn copy of Psychology Made Easy, Lisa Levy performs Psychotherapy Live! In only thirteen minutes, Levy sets out to solve the problems of her "patients" (willing, angst-ridden audience volunteers). With a genuine concern for the mental health of all who attend her show, Levy involves the audience in treating the "patient" by encouraging them to call out helpful suggestions and opinions. There's no pressure to go on stage, and all participants are guaranteed a prize which range from a box of "Midol For Men" to an "I'd Like to Get Rid of my Insecurities" boomerang.

Lisa Levy's career as an advertising art director led to a second career as a conceptual/performance artist. She has shown regularly in many New York galleries, most recently having a solo exhibition in The Bronx Museum. Some of her conceptual projects include making and implementing cement "cow pies" for Manhattan's Cow Parade, stealing objects and displaying them in a well-known art gallery, and legally willing each of her possessions away to anyone who enters her apartment in a will she updates every year with the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. Her very first New York project was selling "Studio 54 Reject" T-shirts to the club's unlucky ousted masses. Levy also conceived and executed Hamster Bowling, featured on David Letterman's "Stupid Pet Tricks" and on his 10th anniversary special. Since 2001, she has appeared in Psychotherapy Live! to sold out houses at HERE Arts Center and Fez. New York Press once noted, "it's only a matter of time before some network exec realizes that Psychotherapy Live! with its camera-friendly therapist and seven-minute segment lengths would be an afternoon smash." In December of 2002, Levy prepared a TV pilot of the show.

Psychotherapy Live! runs Fridays, Sept. 5, 12, 19 and Sat. Sept. 27 at 8:00pm (doors open at 7:00pm). Tickets are $12.
