"The weather outside may be frightful, but expect Ms. Beat to be delightful " -- Village Voice
"a crabby alternative to Christmas cheer... an oasis of bile in a season of sappy sentiment" -- Time Out
Somewhere between Scrooge, the Grinch and a post-holiday hangover is JACKIE BEAT, everyone's favorite bawdy, bold and ballsy, in-your-face funny "lady". On December 17th, Jackie returns to Fez with her 7th annual holiday show, JACKIE BEAT IS COMIN’ TO TOWN. Fez is located at 380 Lafayette Street (@ Great Jones Street). This limited engagement runs for 4 performances only, December 17 - 19, Fri. at 8 & 10pm, Sat. at 8pm and Sun. at 8pm. Tickets are $17. For reservations call 212-533-2680 or visit feznyc.com.
It all started so innocently in 1998 with Jesus Christ, It’s Your Birthday!, a delightful non-denominational holiday tribute featuring such seasonal fare as "Jew Christmas," "Black Christmas," and "Go To Hell," Beat’s jaded take on "Silver Bells". When the show was prominently featured in The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Right’s 1998 Report on Anti-Catholicism, an annual holiday tradition was born.
Now the bile-filled Ms. Beat returns to New York from L.A. to share her latest thoughts on "the most wonderful time of the year." JACKIE BEAT IS COMIN’ TO TOWN features the classic ghosts of Jackie’s Christmas Past, like "Sleigh Bells in Leather With You" "How The Bitch Stole Christmas" and "Oops!... It’s Christmas Again," warmly spiced with new material. And of course, Beat will have her own store of specialty merchandise available pre- and post-show for all your last minute shopping needs. After all, nothing says "Merry Christmas" like a Jackie Beat collector cup or votive candle!
Jackie Beat has been named Best Drag Queen by New York Press, and Best Live Performance by HX Magazine. She moved to New York from LA in 1997 to star in the off-Broadway production of Valley of the Dolls, and later starred in off-Broadway’s Tell-Tale. She has appeared on the big screen in the Joel Schumacher/Robert DeNiro film Flawless as well as the independent films Grief and Wigstock. Beat moved back to LA in 2000 to assume a role as head writer on the short-lived WB sketch comedy show "Hype!". In addition to appearances on numerous national talk shows, she was a contributing writer to US Weekly Magazine. Jackie is also a member of the band Dirty Sanchez. Her past performances at Fez have included Uptown Lady, Downtown Girl, A Whole Lotta Love, and I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On. Her December 17th performance will mark her 100th appearance at Fez.
