Partial Comfort Productions presents ... A MATTER OF CHOICE a new play by Chad Beckim inspired by the impending construction of the 2nd Avenue subway. Directed by John Gould Rubin, previews begin June March 16 at Chashama. Opening night is scheduled for Thursday, March 24th.

When construction of the Second Avenue subway forces three unlikely twenty-something roommates - Diggs, an urban white boy; Chastity, a headstrong Latina; and Webb, a gay black man - to vacate their prime Manhattan apartment, each member of this tight knit family must make a personal choice: either fight to stay together or accept the distance friendships can drift - even under the same roof.

The cast for ... A MATTER OF CHOICE includes Chris Chalk, Sharon Freedman, Sarah Hayon, Molly Pearson, Maduka Steady, Jeremy Strong and John Summerour. The production features set and costumes by Lex Liang, lighting by Justin Townsend, sound by Kristyn R. Smith and fight choreography by Qui Nguyen.

John Gould Rubin is a member of the LAByrinth Theater Company for which he produced Our Lady of 121st St., Dirty Story and Jesus Hopped the ‘A’ Train. He produced and directed The Baby Janes, now at The Belt Theater. He will present the premiere of Mike O’Malley’s Searching for Certainty, (directed by Peter Askin) off-Bway in April, Saul Rubinek’s Terrible Advice in the Fall of 2005; and Stephen Dillane’s one-man Macbeth at festivals internationally this summer. His directing credits include STopless by David Deblinger, The Trail of Her Inner Thigh by Erin Cressida Wilson, John Patrick Shanley’s A Winter Party and The Erotica Project (which he co-created). He is also the author of The Predators’ Ball, which premiered at BAM in 1996.

... A MATTER OF CHOICE is the first full length play by Chad Beckim. As an actor he has appeared in numerous productions including American Ma(u)l at The Culture Project, Benten Kozo at The Flea, Booty Candy and Play at The Kraine. He holds a BFA from Utica College of Syracuse University.

Partial Comfort Productions is a collaborative ensemble devoted to the development and presentation of original new theater. Whether staging a world premiere or reinterpreting old favorites, Partial Comfort Productions aims to spotlight relevant social, political, and cultural issues. The company was co-founded in January 2002 by Chad Beckim and Molly Pearson.
