MONICA! THE MUSICAL
May 20 - 27 at Theatre Three

Page 73 Productions, Inc. (P73) presents a limited engagement of MONICA! THE MUSICAL beginning May 20 at Theatre Three. Directed by Casey Hushion, the new musical features book and lyrics by Daniel J. Blau and Tracie Potochnik, music by Adam Blau and musical direction by Nadia DiGiallonardo. This workshop production is not open for review.

In the face of the national scandal that was the Clinton-Lewinsky affair, MONICA! THE MUSICAL dares to answer the crucial questions: "Exactly how did something this ridiculous happen? And why did we care so much?" The answers are presented in song with a generous helping of postmodern imagination, libelous implications, and some fresh insight that only time can bring. This bold satire mixes past and current D.C. politics with the best (and sometimes worst) of musical theater as it examines our relationship to scandal and human frailty.

Daniel J. Blau, Tracie Potochnik and Adam Blau have been working on MONICA! THE MUSICAL since 1998. Staged reading has been presented by Manhattan Theatre Club and the New York Musical Theater Festival. Long Island natives Adam and Daniel J. Blau are brothers who split their time between New York and LA while Tracie Potochnik resides in Providence, Rhode Island. Daniel works as a story editor on a reality television show while skewering other TV shows as a critic for Television Without Pity. Adam is a composer for film and theater who has written music for such cult favorites as Call Us Crazy: The Anne Heche Monologues and the feature film Buttleman. Tracie works in the non-profit sector writing, researching and Web designing for education reform organizations.

The cast features Christine DiGiallonardo as Monica, Megan Lawrence (Les Miserables, Urinetown) as Hilary, Duke LaFoon as Bill Clinton, Eric Sommers (Aida) as Vernon Jordan, Roz Beauty Davis as Betty Currie, Natalie Joy Johnson (bare: a pop opera) as Janet Reno and Ron DeStefano (Fiddler on the Roof Tour, The Joys of Sex, Saturday Night Live) as George Stephanopoulos with lighting by John Bartonstein and props/scenic design by Seth Sklar Heyn.

Founded in 1997 by Nicole Fix, Liz Jones, Asher Richelli, and Daniel Shiffman, Page 73 Productions, Inc. is committed to developing and producing the work of emerging playwrights. Since its inception, P73 has helped develop works by Peter Ackerman, Peter Morris, Julia Jordan, Karen Hartman, Michael Friedman, Micah Schraft, Lauren Weedman, Peggy Stafford, Dave Mowers and many others. Works developed by P73 have moved on to productions at New York’s Women’s Project, Baltimore’s Center Stage and San Francisco’s Magic Theater. P73 was awarded the Jonathan Larson Performing Arts Foundation for its work on The Unknown by Janet Allard, Shane Rettig, and Jean Randich. In 2003, the company launched the P73 Playwriting Fellowship, which is awarded to one emerging writer annually. For more information visit www.p73.org.
