Hartford, Connecticut's Adam Miller Dance Project will present an ambitious season of new and repertory works this June in concerts at Hartford's Charter Oak Cultural Center and at The Joyce Soho in New York City. For the season, Miller has selected a diverse range of pop culture-oriented pieces that reflect his love of all types of music film, as well as a sense of drama, mystery, sexuality and humor. The program includes:
- the central duet from Pilobolus’ Lands Edge, originally commissioned for the Hartford Ballet, set to music by Paul Sullivan.
- - a new, untitled, work by Adam Miller created as a tribute and exploration of film noir and American detective fiction.
- - "Chamber," a duet by Stuart Loungway, Artistic Director of Terra Firma Dance Theatre
- - "A Minor Form of Despair," a quartet by Sara Sweet Rabidoux, Artistic Director of the modern dance company Hoi Polloi.
- - "Chimera" choreographed by James Graber, formerly a principal dancer with Hartford Ballet and American Repertory Ballet.
Dancers on the program include Mary Beth Hanson, Natalie Koons, Naomi Solomon, Antira Nurnberger and Peter de Grasse. The program also features costumes by Gianna Loungway and lighting by Craig Gehr.
Since its inception in 2004, Adam Miller Dance Project has become a strong presence in Hartford. Under the artistic direction of Adam Miller, the Project is committed to the creation and performance of new, cutting-edge dance works in both the ballet and modern genre. The Adam Miller Dance Project consists of 6 to 8 professional, ballet-trained dancers from New York, Connecticut and New Jersey, many of whom worked with Mr. Miller in Hartford when he was the Associate Artistic Director of Dance Connecticut (formerly Hartford Ballet). "In only our third full season, I feel that June will be a true coming-of-age moment for Adam Miller Dance Project. This program reflects the group's great versatility, its commitment to seeing new ballets put on stage, and the dance community's recognition of our quality and devotion," says Miller.
Adam Miller began his professional career at Pennsylvania Ballet and has been a principal dancer with Pacific Northwest Ballet, Hartford Ballet and Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. He choreographed the full-length ballet Dracula for Carolina Ballet Theater and The Nutcracker for Savannah's Ballet South in addition to creating works for Jacob's Pillow, Montgomery Ballet, Garden State Ballet, Boston Dance Company and DanceGalaxy (now Ballet/NY), among others.
