La MaMa Presents Holiday Spectacular
BALLETTO STILETTO

Move over Radio City! Say "bah-humbug" to A Christmas Carol and "nuts" to The Nutcracker! This year, a new holiday tradition is born when La MaMa E.T.C. premieres BALLETTO STILETTO, a non-denominational holiday spectacular based on the Grimm fairy tale "The 12 Dancing Princesses." A Watson Arts project, BALLETTO STILETTO is conceived and directed by Mary Fulham with choreography by Heidi Latsky. Previews begin December 1 with opening night set for December 3rd.
Set at the height of the holiday shopping frenzy, BALLETTO STILETTO tells the debauched story of Bruno, the Appliance King of New Jersey, and his nine beautiful daughters. Bruno deadbolts his daughters into their bedroom each night. Each morning the lock remains untouched and yet the daughters’ shoes have been worn through, as if they have been out dancing all night. Bruno declares that whoever can unravel the mystery can marry one of the daughters. The one major catch: whoever fails will be put to death.
Combining theater,dance music, comedy and over-the-top spectacle, the production features music by Benjamin Marcantoni, sound design by Obie Winner Tim Schellenbaum, lyrics by FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award winner Paul Foglino, costumes by Ramona Ponce (of Ridiculous Theatrical Company acclaim), sets by Gregory John Mercurio, lighting by Federico Restrepo and video projections/puppetry by Eva Mantell.
Watson Arts, under the artistic direction of award winning director and playwright Mary Fulham, is a resident company of La MaMa E.T.C. This past summer, their original musical Hercules in High Suburbia won a FringeNYC Overall Excellence Award. Fulham’s play Devotion received the MECCA (Montreal English Critics Circle) Award. She is also a two-time winner of the Montreal Fringe Festival Frankie Award for Best Comedy for both P.S. 69 and Was that My 15 Minutes? Fulham began her career as an original member of the groundbreaking all-girl performance group The High Heeled Women.
BALLETTO STILETTO runs December 1 -18, Thursday - Sunday ay 7:30pm and Sunday at 2:30pm.
