Dr. Lisa Levy, S.P.* follows up her critically acclaimed 2002 show Psychotherapy Live! with LET'S PLAY DOCTOR. This all-new blend of theater and therapy will open on January 13 for a limited engagement at Ace of Clubs.
After an attempted ban by The P.R.A. (Psychotherapy Regulatory Association) and self imposed exile in Vienna, Dr. Lisa Levy, S.P.* is ready to experiment on downtown audiences with some radical new techniques in public psychoanalysis. In LET'S PLAY DOCTOR, the doc and her sassy sidekick Jim conduct shocking tests, deconstruct troubled celebrities and showcase very public displays of normally private patient advice. Doctor-patient confidentially rules prohibit us from divulging much more about this ground-breaking experiment in group therapy.
LET'S PLAY DOCTOR is created, written and produced by Lisa Levy. Her career as an advertising art director led to a second career as a conceptual/performance artist. She has shown regularly in many New York galleries including a solo exhibition in The Bronx Museum. Some of her conceptual projects include creating cement "cow pies" for Manhattan's Cow Parade, stealing objects and displaying them in a well-known art gallery, and legally willing each of her possessions away to anyone who enters her apartment in a will she updates every year with the Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts. Her very first New York project was selling "Studio 54 Reject" T-shirts to the club's unlucky ousted masses. Levy also conceived and executed Hamster Bowling, featured on David Letterman's "Stupid Pet Tricks" and on his 10th anniversary special. In 2001, she created Psychotherapy Live!, which has been performed in New York to sold out houses at HERE, The Marquee, Makor, Elmo and Fez and internationally with stops in Philadelphia and Edinburgh International Fringe Festival. Sidekick Jim is played by Jim Conley. He has performed at UCB and other places, often with his improv group Motorboat.
