Celebrate the glitziest (and gayest) night in Hollywood with drag sensations LINDA SIMPSON and EDIE at THE 9th ANNUAL SPIN CYCLE OSCAR PARTY on Sunday, March 5 at The Cutting Room. Festivities begin at 7:00pm with the Joan Rivers TV Guide Channel Oscar Pre-Show. The evening continues with the complete Oscar telecast shown on giant screens in both the lounge and the main performance space at The Cutting Room, impromptu performances, drinking games, movie trivia games and lots of movie memorabilia prizes. Win the Oscar Prediction Ballot for an amazing Grand Prize!
The evening will also include a special guest appearance by MADAME & JOE KOVACS. Madame is an Emmy Award winning entertainer, who, along with her former partner Wayland Flowers, became the toast of Hollywood Squares from 1977 - 1982. She starred as herself in the short-lived 1982 TV sitcom "Madame’s Place" opposite Judy Landers and Corey Feldman. Her book Madame: My Misbegotten Memoirs was published in 1983. Puppeteer Joe Kovacs is her new partner.
EDIE is the alter ego of of Christopher Kenney. He began his career with Ballet Oregon and later joined the Pacific Northwest Ballet, Ballet Chicago, and Ballet GranDiva. Edie is the recipient of the 2000 HX Award for Best Drag Queen and three Glammy Awards. She has appeared at Wigstock, the VMA’s, Broadway Bares, Caroline’s Comedy Club and in "Sex and the City." Christopher makes his Broadway debut this March opposite Cyndi Lauper, Nellie McKay and others in a revival of Threepenny Opera.
LINDA SIMPSON is a writer, an editor, an emcee and a general celeb about town. Her 'zine My Comrade and her party Channel 69 at Pyramid Club in the 90s have now achieved cult status among downtown scenesters. Currently she hosts Bingo Mondays at Piola and is an editor at Time Out New York. She is the author of two acclaimed plays, The Tranny Chase and The Final Episode, which both premiered at PS 122.
Past Spin Cycle Oscar Party hosts have included Kiki & Herb, Jackie Beat, Murray Hill, Mike Albo, The Unitards, The Wau Wau Sisters and more. None of them remembers who actually won.
THE 9th ANNUAL SPIN CYCLE OSCAR PARTY will be presented Sunday, March 5. Doors open at 7:00pm; Oscar telecast begins at 8:00pm. A full menu is available throughout the night.
