Acclaimed Solo Artist Premieres
DINA MARTINA: SEDENTARY LADY
April 13 - 29 at The Cutting Room
"Absolutely high-f**king-larious! GO, GO, GO!" -- Dan Savage, author and columnist
"Once in a great long while, the planets align and all of nature conspires to come up with the previously unimaginable, the wondrous and newly beautiful, the awe inspiring. And some people are lucky enough to live in a time when such a creative vision appears in their midst. Now is such a time, we are the lucky ones, and Dina Martina is it." -- Craig Lucas, playwright
"To those who have experienced the magic of Dina, she is a reason to live." -- The Stranger
"Stupefying and jaw-dropping!" -- The Oregonian
Seattle performance artist DINA MARTINA brings her acclaimed show DINA MARTINA: SEDENTARY LADY to New York for a limited engagement beginning April 13 at The Cutting Room. After attaining cult status in her native town of Seattle and in Provincetown last summer, Martina’s official New York premiere (a two night showcase at The Cutting Room in December) sold out in minutes. The show itself left jaded New York audiences stunned and clamoring for more.
DINA MARTINA: SEDENTARY LADY, like all of Martina’s surreal shows, is a unique night of entertainment that assaults the senses like no other show. Her unforgettable blend of peculiar music, stupefying comedy and bizarre performance has been described as "a train wreck in heels", "like Vegas on crack" and "one of the best nightmares you'll ever have".
DINA MARTINA was conceived in 1989 by Seattle performer Grady West, who developed the hilariously unwitting character into a multifaceted persona. Dina’s shows have been presented in Seattle at venues including On The Boards, Re-bar, The Jewelbox Theater and Experience Music Project as well as in cities including Provincetown, Vancouver, Portland and San Francisco. Martina has also shared the bill with acts such as Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, Justin Bond, Nina Hagen and The Village People. In 1997, West was nominated for a Stranger Fringe Theater Award for best solo show and in 1999 and 2004 he received Footlight Awards from The Seattle Times. This past August, Martina made her Wigstock debut with a mesmerizing rendition of "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."
DINA MARTINA: SEDENTARY LADY runs April 13 - 29, Thursday - Saturday at 8:00pm. (Please note: there is no show Friday, April 21; instead there is a show on Sunday, April 23 at 8:00pm). Tickets are $17. The Cutting Room is located at 19 West 24th (accessible from the N,R,F,V & 6 trains at 23rd Street). To purchase tickets call 212-352-3101 or visit TheaterMania.com.
