Partial Comfort Productions Premieres

'NAMI
September 6 - 30 at The Kirk Theater

"The little company that could... they have achieved what hundreds of people come to New York every year to do: make a mark on the city’s fiercely competitive theater world." -- The New York Times

Partial Comfort Productions (Booty Candy, Battle of the Bards) presents the World Premiere of 'NAMI by Chad Beckim. The production reunites writer Beckim with director John Gould Rubin, the duo behind the critically acclaimed 2005 hit ...a matter of choice. Previews begin September 6 at The Kirk Theater at Theater Row Studios where Partial Comfort is a 2006-2007 resident company.

When Lil, a damaged agoraphobe, believes she has uncovered a plot to sell a child of Tsunami-ravaged Indonesia into sex slavery by her neighbors, her husband must confront what he perceives to be her declining mental health. Next door, Keesha grapples with her husband’s addiction and the daily struggle for normalcy, further endangered by their new underaged tenant. When the women piece together the details of the transaction, they unite to save the child, their husbands and themselves from the coming storm.

The production stars Michael J.X. Gladis (Dog Sees God, Signature’s Fifth of July), Mark Rosenthal (Marvin’s Room, After Ashley), Quincy Tyler Bernstine (The Civilian’s Nobody’s Lunch, Matt & Ben), Alfredo Narciso (Roundabout’s A Streetcar Named Desire with Natasha Richardson, Dead City) and Eva Kaminsky (The Safety Net, The Syringa Tree national tour).

John Gould Rubin is a member of the LAByrinth Theater Company for which he produced Our Lady of 121st St. and Jesus Hopped the 'A’ Train. His directing credits include The Fartiste (Ma-Yi’s Trial By Water, STopless by David Deblinger, The Trail of Her Inner Thigh by Erin Cressida Wilson, John Patrick Shanley’s A Winter Party and The Erotica Project (which he co-created). He is also the author of The Predators’ Ball, which premiered at BAM in 1996.

'NAMI is the second full length play by Chad Beckim. As an actor he has appeared in numerous productions including American Ma(u)l at The Culture Project, Benten Kozo at The Flea, and Play at The Kraine. He holds a BFA from Utica College of Syracuse University.

Partial Comfort Productions is a collaborative ensemble devoted to the development and presentation of original new theater. The company was co-founded in January 2002 by Chad Beckim and Molly Pearson. Past productions include Open House at FringeNYC 2006; Craft and The Bigger Man by Sam Marks; Booty Candy by Robert O’Hara; Play by O’Hara, Chay Yew, Kia Corthron, Eddie Sanchez, Keith Adkins and Tracey Scott Wilson; Edith Freni’s Baby Girl; and Chad Beckim’s ...a matter of choice.
