Acclaimed Will Eno Play Gets Extension

OH, THE HUMANITY and other exclamations
Performances run through February 2, 2008 at The Flea

The Flea Theater (Jim Simpson, Artistic Director/Carol Ostrow, Producing Director) announces the extension of its critically acclaimed Off-Broadway production of OH, THE HUMANITY and other good intentions. This World Premiere by Pulitzer Prize finalist Will Eno is directed by Jim Simpson. Originally scheduled to end December 22, performances have been extended through February 2, 2008.

OH, THE HUMANITY and other exclamations is five short plays about people like you, facing lives like yours. About life, in a word. Not suitable for children. The five pieces include: Behold the Coach, In a Blazer, Uninsured; Ladies and Gentleman, The Rain; Enter the Spokeswoman, Gently; The Bully Composition; and Oh, The Humanity.

The production stars Brian Hutchison (The Invention of Love and Proof on Broadway) and Christina Kirk (Well, [sic], God's Ear, Nobody's Lunch) who replaces Marisa Tomei beginning January 15. It also features an appearance by Drew Hildebrand. The production team includes sets by Kyle Chepulis, lighting by Brian Aldous, costumes by Claudia Brown, sound by Jill BC DuBoff, and video/projection by Dustin O'Neill.

Will Eno garnered international attention with Thom Pain (based on nothing), which played to acclaim in London, Edinburgh and New York and was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Charles Isherwood of The New York Times hailed Eno as "a Samuel Beckett for the Jon Stewart generation." Eno's other plays include Tragedy: a tragedy, The Flu Season, Kid Blanco, King: a problem play, and an adaptation of Ibsen's Peer Gynt. In November 2007, he was awarded the National Arts Club's Kesselring Honor.

The Flea Theater is one of New York's leading theater companies, and has been honored with a Special Drama Desk Award, Obie Awards and an Otto Award for political theater. The Flea has presented over 80 plays and numerous dance and live music performances since its inception in 1996. Past productions include the premieres of Anne Nelson's The Guys, four plays by A.R. Gurney (Post Mortem, O Jerusalem, Screenplay, and Mrs. Farnsworth), Mac Wellman's Cellophane and Two September, Roger Rosenblatt's Ashley Montana Goes Ashore..., Elizabeth Swados' JABU, Karen Finley's Return of the Chocolate Smeared Woman, Yussef El Guindi's Back of the Throat, Julian Sheppard's Los Angeles, and Adam Rapp's Bingo with the Indians.
