Acclaimed Performer Debuts Unique New Work

DINA MARTINA: OFF THE CHARTS!
Limited Engagement runs February 22 - March 9

"A blend of song, dance, comedy and prayer that will make you piss your pants. Adult underpants suggested." -- The Village Voice

"Once in a great long while, the planets align and all of nature conspires to come up with the previously unimaginable, the wondrous and newly beautiful, the awe inspiring. And Dina Martina is it." -- Craig Lucas, playwright

"Simply put, Dina Martina is the greatest and simultaneously worst performer the world has ever seen." -- The Portland Mercury

"Performance art never looked so good!" -- Whoopi Goldberg

Acclaimed Seattle performance artist DINA MARTINA brings her newest show DINA MARTINA: OFF THE CHARTS! to New York for a limited engagement beginning February 22 at The Cutting Room. After attaining cult status in her native town of Seattle and touring nationally, Martina’s official New York premiere (a two night showcase at The Cutting Room in December 2005) sold out in minutes. Her follow-up shows have left jaded audiences (including Whoopi Goldberg, John Waters, Law & Order’s S. Epatha Merkerson, "Peace Mom" Cindy Sheehan, Tony winner Jefferson Mays, John Cameron Mitchell, Margaret Cho, Rue McClanahan, Bruce Vilanch, Jeff Stryker, and Pulitzer Prize winner Doug Wright) stunned and clamoring for more.

DINA MARTINA: OFF THE CHARTS!, like all of Martina’s surreal shows, is a nearly indescribable night of unique entertainment that assaults the senses like no other show. Her unforgettable blend of peculiar music, stupefying comic banter and bizarre performance has been described as "a train wreck in heels", "like Vegas on crack" and "one of the best nightmares you'll ever have". Perhaps the best description of Dina comes from a glowing review in Seattle’s famed alternative weekly The Stranger: "Her voice sounds like a cat having an epileptic fit on a chalkboard, her body moves like two pigs fighting their way out of a sleeping bag, and her face looks like the collision of a Maybelline truck with a Shoney's buffet. But Dina redefines what it means to be a star." Those who don't think a performance can be life-changing haven’t seen Dina Martina.

DINA MARTINA was conceived in 1989 by Seattle performer Grady West. Dina’s shows have been presented in Seattle at venues including On The Boards, Re-bar, The Jewelbox Theater and Experience Music Project as well as in cities including Provincetown, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Portland and San Francisco. Martina has also shared the bill with acts such as Modest Mouse, Built To Spill, Justin Bond, Nina Hagen and The Village People. West is the recipient of two Footlight Awards from The Seattle Times (1999 & 2004), a 1997 nominee for a Seattle Stranger Fringe Theater Award for Best Solo Show, a 2006 GLAAD Media Award nominee for Best Off-Off-Broadway show and a finalist for the 2007 Alpert Award. Past shows include Sedentary Lady, Dina Martina’s Yule Log and Soft Palate, Fallen Arches.

DINA MARTINA: OFF THE CHARTS! runs February 22 - March 9, Friday - Sunday at 7:30pm. Tickets are $20. The Cutting Room is located at 19 West 24th (accessible from the N,R,F,V & 6 trains at 23rd Street). To purchase tickets call 212-352-3101 or order online now.
