Somewhere between Scrooge, the Grinch and a post-holiday hangover is JACKIE BEAT, everyone's favorite bawdy, bold and ballsy, in-your-face funny "lady". It all started so innocently in 1998 with Jesus Christ, It’s Your Birthday!, a delightful non-denominational holiday tribute featuring such seasonal fare as "Jew Christmas," "Black Christmas," and "Go To Hell," Beat’s jaded take on "Silver Bells". When the show was prominently featured in The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Right’s 1998 Report on Anti-Catholicism, an annual holiday tradition was born.

HOLLY WOODLAWN: A HOLLY, JOLLY XMAS
December 10 & 11 at Fez
Holly Woodlawn was part of the Andy Warhol Factory scene in the 1960’s and 1970’s, the wildly creative underground downtown Manhattan scene that created visual art, films, music, and performance. Along with fellow Warhol Superstars and associates like Lou Reed, Edie Sedgwick, Sylvia Miles, Viva, Penny Arcade, and Candy Darling, Holly appeared in projects regularly and the gossip columns constantly. Her leading role in the film "Andy Warhol’s Trash," directed by Paul Morrissey and co-starring the iconic Joe Dallesandro, catapulted her to international stardom.

November 24 - 27 at Fez
Winner of the Overall Excellence in Solo Performance at the 2004 New York International Fringe Festival, Dixie Longate returns to NYC with her latest offering, DIXIE’S HOLIDAY TUPPERWARE PARTY. This hysterical show combining drag, QVC-styled sales pitches, improv comedy and over-the-top monologues will run at Fez for 3 performances only during Thanksgiving weekend, November 24- 27. SEX*BUT is presented as a question and answer forum. The questions include: What do homosexuals really do with each other?, Are all homosexual contacts as impersonal as that?, An Artificial Vagina?, and Aren't homosexuals afraid of being arrested? The piece also features special "friend of the director's commentary," an underwear fashion show and and an unforgettable dance break!

Hazard County
Oct. 7 - Nov. 7 at The 14th Street Y
Hazard County centers around Ruth, an impoverished young mother in rural Kentucky struggling to raise twins after the tragic death of her husband. One day she meets Blake, a tabloid TV news reporter from LA who is combing small-town America for stories about "real people." When he discovers that Ruth has a small fortune left unclaimed, her story seems to be just what he's looking for. With Blake under pressure to unearth an Enquirer-style story, will Ruth be forced to face the secret she's denied for years? The answer partially lies in an unlikely source: 1970’s television staple The Dukes of Hazzard.

Oswald’s Backyard is set in September of 1963 in the backyard of a New Orleans home and inside the mind of Leo Oscar, a naive, petulant and ultimately violent young man. Leo, like many young Americans, searches for his own identity, struggles with idealism and obsesses with media and fame. The play explores the psychological landscape of a man driven to extremely desperate actions.

Barbara Bush Never Slept Here is set in a small Texas town in 2001 just after George W. Bush has been elected President. Patrick Kenilworth is a state representative and one of the many people who feels defeated. He seeks solace in both his ex-wife and a former colleague, Councilwoman Pansy Matthews. Soon a political scandal threatens to change all of their lives -- and maybe even the outcome of the 2004 election...

Good grief! Even cartoon characters have to grow up eventually. Dog Sees God: Confessions of a Teenage Blockhead shows what happens when America’s favorite blockhead discovers that his beloved beagle has terminal rabies. A missing pen pal, an abused pianist, a pyromaniac ex-girlfriend, two drunk cheerleaders, a homophobic quarterback, a burnt-out Buddhist and a drama queen sister are all contributing factors to the teen-angst of America’s most hapless kid. An unauthorized parody.

In this all-new Hospital series, the audience once again comes face-to-face with a man in a deep, terminal coma. In past years he has arrived in this state through varied means: an illness, a house fire, drowning in a swimming pool, freezing, and murder. The audience travels along with him in his coma as he lives out his last few days roaming the vast, dark interiors of his own brain.

Out On Broadway
June 22 at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall
New York City Gay Men’s Chorus (NYCGMC) rounds out its 24th season with OUT ON BROADWAY, a new work that pays tribute to both the gay creators of America’s musical theatre and the gay characters and subjects from some of the most popular shows on the Great White Way. The concert features a book by Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright Terrence McNally. Sponsored by American Airlines and Fleet Bank, the concert will be presented one night only -- Tuesday, June 22 at 8pm at Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall. The concert is a co-commission with the Seattle Men’s Chorus who will premiere the work on the West Coast later that week.

THE FASTEST WOMAN ALIVE is based on the amazing and true story of Jackie Cochran (1914 -1980), the little-known aviator who holds more flight records than any other human being in history. This controversial pilot, who included Amelia Earhart and Chuck Yeager in her circle of close friends, holds the distinction of being the first woman to break the sound barrier among nearly 200 flying records. Not merely a pilot, Cochran had a hand in Eisenhower’s election, formed a successful cosmetics company, was involved in astronaut training, and interviewed leaders including Chiang Kai-shek and Mao Tse-tung for Liberty Magazine.

The Roaring Girle

The most infamous woman you've never heard of is at the center THE ROARING GIRLE: Moll Cutpurse, a woman ahead of her time, and ours. Born in 1579 at Barbican Aldersgate Street and died of dropsy in 1650 at Fleet Street, Moll became 17th century London's most notorious cross-dresser and "governess of the underworld". Playwright Alice Tuan has brought Moll into the 21st century, freely adapting the original text into a quick-witted satire that takes place in a world where the days of the week have corporate sponsors, free speech costs a fortune, beauty is mandatory and theatre has been declared illegal. The plot includes plenty of Jacobean twists and turns--star crossed lovers, gallants out of cash, and hapless comic servants. Against this backdrop, Moll will stage an insurgent performance of her forbidden "Show of Shows" rallying her fellow citizens into a roar against the authoritarian attitudes of the day.

Did you ever wish you could see Cher perform in an intimate setting for a small group of enthusiastic fans? Cher may have finished her Farewell Tour in October, but your dreams come true in January when master impersonator DEVON CASS performs his picture-perfect show "CHER: FOUR DECADES LIVE" at Fez (located inside Time Cafe at 380 Lafayette Street). Cass, who sings in his own voice throughout the show, performs all of Cher’s hits, from "I Got You Babe" to "I Found Someone" to "Believe."

The Hunger Waltz
January 8 - 25 at Manhattan Ensemble Theatre
The Hunger Waltz explores one woman's search for identity over a period of 600 years. The play takes place in three acts, in three time periods: the 18th century, the 20th century, and the 22nd century. Gwen, the protagonist, searches for a personal freedom she cannot name. She attempts to discover its nature through interactions with her female lover and her abusive husband. Elements of the supernatural intervene and guide her on her quest.

Instructions for Forgetting
January 8 - 25 at Theatre for the New City
Beginning January 8, P.S. 122 will present the much anticipated U.S. debut of Instructions for Forgetting by Tim Echells of U.K. theatre sensation Forced Entertainment. Somewhere between a performance and an idosyncratic lecture, this unusual piece inteweaves original text with found video, letters, interviews and tapes from friends alongside recordings of world events. Written and performed by Tim Etchells and created in collaboration with Richard Lowdon (design) and Hugo Glendinning (video), performances will take place at Theatre for the New City with opening night scheduled for January 9, 2004.
