This Urban Cowboy Has A Dark Secret
Cowboy Void
April 3 - 27 at The Common Basis Theatre
Beginning Thursday, April 3rd, Oblyque Productions presents the New York premiere of Cowboy Void. Written by Gary Craig, the play explores the disparate and desperate lives of four people trapped in a vacant suburban apartment.
Cowboy Void begins when a shy young landlord with a perverted passion for the musical Jesus Christ Superstar confronts his perspective client and former teacher about her part in his disillusioned dreams. The showdown escalates with the arrival of a bitter Jesus freak, but none are prepared for the gun-toting entrance of a lost soul who seeks redemption from his haunted past by taking them hostage. Blasphemous secrets abound as desperation fills the emptiness, and the only way to uncover the truth is through a randy game of role-playing.
Under the direction of Denny Martin, the production features set and lighting design by Fred Donatelli, costume design by Denny Martin & Robert Branigan, and performances by Robert Branigan, Randy Olivia, Judy Stone, and Virginia Lowery.
Gary Craig is a Pittsburgh-based playwright. His career started as an actor at the Pittsburgh Playhouse, where he graduated to The Famous Rider, home of the original production of August Wilson's Jitney. He next worked at the Laurel Highlands Regional Theater and the Acting Company of Pittsburgh with its founders Glenn Gress and E.K. Evans, original members of Edward Albee's Playwrighting Unit. It was here where Craig received several staged reading of his work. He has since written numerous stage and screenplays, and together with Lisa Bradley, he founded Oblyque Productions.
