Sideway Theater Company presents the New York Premiere of Feed the Hole by Michael Stock, winner of the 2001 New York International Fringe Festival Overall Excellence Award for Playwrighting for Hustle. Directed by Karina Miller, performances begin April 10th at Altered Stages in Chelsea.
Feed the Hole centers around Shelly who is having a torrid affair. And everyone knows it, or at least suspects it. Everyone, that is, except for her lover Brett. The affair sparks heated and frank conversations in bars, apartments and in bed. It also astutely illustrates how the sexes deal differently with infidelity. Shelly is able to confide her secrets with her girlfriends and her gay best friend; Brett’s buddies simply avoid the topic. Ultimately, Feed the Hole is a fresh and funny look at the all-too-common problem of how we fill the void in our lives when we feel unsatisfied.
The production stars Alexander Alioto, Melissa Picarello, Adam Reiner, Michael Stock,Fay Wolf, and Anthony Wood with sets by Kevin Judge and lighting by Justin Burleson.
Michael Stock most recently wrote and directed his acclaimed production of Hustle in the 2001 New York International Fringe Festival. Other writing credits include The Ice Lid for Eve’s Apple, a one-woman festival at The Kraine and text for Tesha Buss’ Euphrasy/Eukrazy. In Chicago, Michael was a production assistant on John Malkovich's world premiere of Libra at Steppenwolf Theatre.
Sideway Theater Company was originally founded in 1991 in Chicago by an ensemble of high school students. Past productions include Wings, Someone Who’ll Watch Over Me, Beirut, and Amadeus. Hustle marked their New York debut. The Company’s name was inspired by Robert Sideway, an English convict who started the first theatre in Australia and who also inspired Thomas McNeely's novel The Playmaker and subsequently Timberlake Wertenbaker's play Our Country's Good. Eschewing the obvious, Sideway approaches classics, current playwrights, and develops new voices by excavating a fresh, or sideways, view of the text.
Feed the Hole runs April 10-27, Weds. - Sat. at 8pm, Sun. at 3pm with additional shows Sat. April 19 & Sat. April 26 at 11pm. Tickets are $15.
