The Layre Productions presents the World Premiere of THE HOLE, a new musical inspired by the short-lived, but infamously debauched gay East Village nightclub of the same name. Directed by Samantha Schectman (NY premiere of Nobel Prize winner Gao XingjianÕs The Bus Stop), THE HOLE features book by Joey Murray, lyrics by Heidi Heilig and music by Rob Baumgartner. Previews begin September 9th at the Theatre at St. Clement. Opening night is set for Saturday, September 12th.
THE HOLE takes you on a musical odyssey through a night in the life of a young actor and a Manhattan sex worker. These self-medicated young New Yorkers search for validation, a sense of self, and love in dark places around a notorious East Village dive bar. Be forewarned: some tales have no morals.
THE HOLE stars Ari Gold (Jem & the Holograms, two Outmusic Awards, LOGO Video of the Year, Out MagazineÕs 100 Most Influential) with Jennifer Anderson (College: The Musical), Joey Calveri (We Will Rock You), Melissa Grohowski, Kako Kitano, Alex Michaels, Jacques Mitchell, Kaitlin Monte, Carolyn Montgomery, Xavier Rice, Alana Simone, Stephanie Spano, and Amy Warner.
Heidi HeiligÕs writing credits include The Time Travelers Convention, World of Heroes, Long Distance (with Mike Pettry) and Under Construction (with Rob Baumgartner). Her play, The Hesitating Veteran, took 2nd place in the 2004 Sprenger Lang History Play Contest and was semi-finalist in the 2005 Next Generation and 2003 Writer's Digest Playwriting Contests. She holds an MFA in Musical Theatre Writing from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.
Joey MurrayÕs writing credits include The Gallery (New York Theatre Barn), Hollywood and several original works for CORE Theatre Company. He recently completed the NYU Playwriting Lab.
