"We need to bottle her and pass it around." -- Michael Musto, Village Voice
High-kicking drag sensation SAHARA DAVENPORT, a favorite contestant on the 2nd season of RuPaul’s Drag Race on Logo TV, will premiere her first evening-length solo show, SAHARA WITH A “HA”! at The Laurie Beechman Theater for two shows beginning September 15. It is directed by David Drumgold with musical direction by Brian Whitted and choreography by David Glaspie.
SAHARA WITH A “HA”!, is a coming of age story of a young black suburbanite who ventures away to college to study dance but ends up being one of America's fiercest drag personas: Sahara Davenport. The story is told through monologues, anecdotes, songs, and ,of course, choreography.
Dallas native SAHARA DAVENPORT got her start while in college as a choreographer to many of the drag legends competing on the pageant scene. In hopes of making her own dreams come true, Sahara moved to New York where she won many contests and competitions all over the city before landing her own show at uptown hangout, Suite. Since then she has performed at venues including Barracuda, Vlada, Escuelita, Therapy, XL, The Monster, and Splash. Sahara has been seen on television on A&E Network's 15 Films about Madonna, Voom HD's Magnificent Obsessions, and on ABC's daytime soap One Life to Live, as well as the pilot of Judge Karen (as an angry Beyonce impersonator who sues the paparazzi). Sahara made her art film debut in award-winning artist Kalup Linzy's video-performance piece Melody Set Me Free, which was shown at the Whitney Museum. Sahara's talents have also been highlighted in music videos "Girl Problems" by the group Girl Problems and "Gettin Over" by Billboard chart topping artists David Guetta and Chris Willis. Most recently, she was a contestant on the critically acclaimed reality television show RuPaul's Drag Race on Logo.
