Three of Los Angeles’ hottest comic talents -- Sam Pancake, Selene Luna and Nadya Ginsburg -- have joined together to present an evening of sketch and standup comedy. Titled PANCAKE WITH LUNA & GINSBURG OVER EASY, it will be performed for one night only, Sunday, May 23 at 9pm at Bowery Poetry Club (308 Bowery, between Houston and Bleecker -- accessible from the #6 train at Bleecker, F/V trains at 2nd Avenue, or the B/D trains at Broadway Lafayette). Tickets are $18, available at 212-352-3101 or HERE.
In PANCAKE WITH LUNA & GINSBURG OVER EASY, Selene Luna (Margaret Cho’s The Sensuous Woman, My Bloody Valentine 3-D, The Cho Show) acts as emcee and standup comic as Sam Pancake (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Kitchen Confidential, Lovespring International) and Nadya Ginsburg (Adam and Steve, Frank TV and a You Tube sensation for numerous videos) offer sketches and outrageous character monologues. Among Pancake’s characters are Fritzie Tangiello, a flamboyant Broadway ex-showboy who is pursuing an unexpected new career, and Griffin Schlossberg, an unorthodox casting agent for children. Ginsberg will offer up her acclaimed portrayals of Madonna and Cher as well as original characters including a disgruntled guidette vampire from 1987, and a precocious 6 year-old actress.
All three performers are in New York to co-star in Jackie Beat's WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BUSTY JANE? at The Laurie Beechman Theatre.
SAM PANCAKE is an actor, improviser, and sketch comedian who hails from Romney, WV. He first came to national attention after being called a "cunt" by Larry David in the notorious "The Shrimp Incident" episode of "Curb Your Enthusiasm." He has appeared in high-profile recurring and guest starring television roles on popular series including Pushing Daisies, 'TiIl Death, Friends, Arrested Development, Will & Grace, Life with Bonnie, Fat Actress, Charmed, West Wing, NYPD Blue, and Without a Trace. Sam was also a regular on FOX's Kitchen Confidential and Lifetime's improv-based sitcom Lovespring International. Sam has appeared in a slew of films, including Win A Date With Tad Hamilton!, Legally Blonde 2 and the upcoming Falling Up and Barry Munday. Sam has also been an active member of the Los Angeles theatre community for years appearing in countless plays, improv and sketch shows. He has performed his autobiographical one-man show The Head is Not Reliable: Stories from a High-Strung Appalachian Boyhood on stage many times over the last few years. And, yes, Pancake is his real last name.
At 3'10", SELENE LUNA is a small package with a big presence; she has carved a niche for herself and continues to break the mold for little people in entertainment. Comedienne, co-star of Margaret Cho’s The Cho Show on Vh1 and recurring character in David Faustino’s Sony Crackle web series Star-ving, Luna pushes the envelop through her character-driven comedy. Luna has built a career performing in cabaret, burlesque and sketch comedy with the likes of Ann Magnuson, Jackie Beat and Russ Meyer icon Tura Satana, as well as two solo shows in Los Angeles, Pocket Venus and Say It to My Face! Miss Luna won critical acclaim for her featured performances in Margaret Cho’s Off-Broadway variety show, The Sensuous Woman. The New York Times has called Miss Luna, “A polished spitfire”, and in 2009, she was nominated for MTV LOGO’s NewNowNext: Brink of Fame: Comic Award for her work on The Cho Show. Last winter Luna opened for Margaret Cho to a sold-out audience at the Silver Legacy Casino in Reno. Luna can be seen in Lionsgate's 2009 release My Bloody Valentine 3D.
NADYA GINSBURG (an edgy Jew-Talian Tracy Ullman) is an actor and comedian who has been called “amazingly talented” by Roseanne Barr, a "genius" by Perez Hilton and has been featured in Q Magazine in London, The Village Voice, The New York Times and Time Out New York. Nadya honed her talent for creating off beat original characters and celebrity impressions on the stages of New York City. She was brought to Los Angeles to be a series regular on the WB sketch comedy series HYPE and has written and starred in pilots for Comedy Central, VH1, MTV and Lifetime Television. Nadya has guest starred on Bill Murray’s Sweetspot on Comedy Central, NBC's The Rerun Show and Frank TV on TBS. She worked along side Parker Posey in the feature film Adam & Steve and in the indy feature The Couch, slated to be released this June. She recently co-stared and co-wrote a webisode series produced by Roseanne Barr and has an international cult following for the Youtube series “The Worm” that she co-wrote and stars in, playing Cher, Madonna, Britney Spears, Winona Ryder, and more. She recently performed her one woman show NadyaLogues to sold out crowds at the Cavern Club Theater in Los Angeles and was a guest on The Today Show debuting her new Lady Gaga parody "Al Roker Face".
