Amios presents the World Premiere of THE LONELIEST NUMBER by Lizzie Vieh. The production marks the directorial debut of Tony Award nominee Maria Dizzia (In The Next Room, Orange is the New Black). Previews begin February 22 at The Flamboyán Theater with opening night slated for Wednesday, February 28.

In THE LONELIEST NUMBER, a couple attempts to revive their struggling marriage by taking on a new "third" every month. As these partners and side-partners become wound into each other’s lives, personalities collide and relationships disintegrate, calling into question whether any connection can really be casual.

THE LONELIEST NUMBER was originally presented as a short play in Amios’ long-running and wildly popular SHOTZ! short play series. It was later developed into a full-length play as part of Amios’ First Draughts series.

The production stars Maurice Jones (Broadway’s The Cherry Orchard with Diane Lane, Romeo & Juliet with Orlando Bloom, Julius Caesar with Denzel Washington), Cassandra Paras (The Amoralists), Leigh Williams (five seasons with Riverside Theatre Shakespeare Festival) and Justin Yorio (Amios, The Foundry Theater, Dutch Kills, The Assembly) with set by Frank J. Oliva, lighting by Ali Hall, costumes by Jocelyn Pierce and sound by Nick Abeel.

Lizzie Vieh is a playwright and actor. Her full-length plays include Backwater Rising, Barrier Islands, and Wisconsin Death Trip. Her work has been performed at the Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Festival (Monsoon Season, finalist), The Wild Project, Daryl Roth Theater, MTC Studios, The Kraine, and The Brown/Trinity Graduate Program. MFA Brown/Trinity, BA Brown University. (www.LizzieVieh.com)

THE LONELIEST NUMBER is the first full-length play to be directed by Maria Dizzia. She received a Tony Award nomination for her performance in Broadway's In the Next Room... by Sarah Ruhl. Her recent acting credits include the films Abe and Phil's Last Poker Game and Christina. On TV she can be seen on “The Blacklist,” as Tricia on “Horace and Pete,” and as Polly on “Orange is the New Black.” Maria teaches scene study at The Freeman Studio in NYC.

Amios, currently under Artistic Director Justin Robert Yorio, was founded in 2009 by a trio of graduates of the National Theater Conservatory in Denver. Their initial project, SHOTZ!, an evening of new one-acts, was first performed informally in New York once a month in bars and apartments. SHOTZ!  has grown to into two fully-produced performances each month at The Kraine Theater on East 4th Street in New York. In 2012, AmiosWest was founded in San Francisco. SHOTZ!  outposts have also been established in Boston (2012) and Los Angeles (2015).  In 2016, Amios launched its First Draughts program dedicated to expanding former Shotz! pieces into full-length plays over the course of a six-month development process. THE LONELIEST NUMBER is the first World Premiere production from that program. Amios has also produced two full-length productions, In the Meantime and There’s a Light on Yonder Mountain.
